Come and meet the disciple makers and learn how the same strategy could be used to make disciples of your hard-to-reach neighbors.
featuring Jerry Trousdale & Roy Moran with David Watson by video
Since 2007 God has used these leaders and their teams to catalyze movements reaching over 1 million new disciples in hard-to-reach cultures and unreached people groups (UPGs).
The Compass Church
520 Roosevelt Road, Wheaton, IL
Today in some of the most gospel-resistant peoples of the world, literally millions are turning to Jesus. One day many more will do the same in Europe and secular America. We need not fear immigrants coming to our nation – but we do need to rethink some of our strategies.
If you join in, you might just see your next door neighbor, new immigrants and your hard-hearted brother-in-law also discover, obey and fall in love with Jesus – and then quickly help others do the same.
Jerry Trousdale will be sharing about breakthroughs among Muslims from his book Miraculous Movements: How Hundreds of Thousands of Muslims are Falling in Love with Jesus. (Thomas Nelson, 2012)
Jerry will also highlight new information from his forthcoming book, The Kingdom Unleashed (2018) which deals especially with the topic of why these movements aren’t happening as powerfully in America.
Roy Moran will explain how he has applied DMM strategies to his church in Kansas City and seen multiplication among suburbanites and immigrants alike. His book, Spent Matches: Igniting the Signal Fire for the Spiritually Dissatisfied (Refraction, 2015) especially focuses on bringing DMM principles to the US Church.
David Watson will be sharing amazing stories from his global ministry and insights from his book, Contagious Disciple Making.
Also, get “under the hood” on movements through break-out seminars including:
Jerry Trousdale – Jerry is Director of International Ministries for New Generations International, a spin-off of City Team International, San Jose, CA. Jerry also co-founded Final Command Ministries, an organization originally dedicated to establishing Disciple Making Movements (DMMs) among Muslim people groups in Africa, now expanding globally. Over the years Jerry has served as a church planter among Muslims in West Africa, as an author and editor in Christian publishing, and as a pastor in California and Tennessee. His major focus these days is giving leadership to their research team, doing strategic analysis, encouraging the Global North Church toward kingdom movements and creating a structure for publishing DMM catalysts. Jerry is a husband, a father, and a grandfather. Moreover, he’s a disciple of Jesus Christ who has given his life to helping others also become disciple-making disciples. Jerry is our primary plenary speaker, and the author of Miraculous Movements (2012) and Kingdom Unleashed (2018). His books will be on sale at a special conference rate at the Summit.
Roy Moran – Roy was born in Tokyo, Japan and graduated from high school in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1992, he and his wife, Candy, plus a group of four others started Shoal Creek Community Church. Over the last 26 years, Shoal Creek has grown to over a 1,000 people, largely by reaching people who aren’t used to going to church. Roy has pioneered the concept of the “Hybrid Church,” which finds synergy between the traditional attractional strategy and the principles found in disciple making movements (DMM). Roy authored Spent Matches (Refraction/Thomas Nelson) in 2014 to add to the conversation of Disciple-Making Movements and the local church in the West. Roy is a board member of New Generations (formerly City Team International), and Beyond (formerly Mission to Unreached Peoples). Roy is madly in love with Candy, his wife of 40 years, and golf—in that order! He has four grown and married children and 13 beautiful grandchildren, all living in the Kansas City area and vitally connected to Jesus. Roy is our second plenary speaker.
David L. Watson – Some of us consider David “the godfather” of Church Planting Movements. In fact, on the first page of Chapter 1 in David Garrison’s 2004 ground-breaking book, Church Planting Movements (WIGTake), the story of David’s dramatic breakthrough in India is highlighted. For many of us involved in movements around the world, we first learned about movements either through David or from others he’s trained. Since 1989, David has been involved in 103 movements that have seen over 100,000 churches started, and he has trained more than 30,000 leaders from 167 nations. He continues to serve the global church by training and mentoring the next generation of disciple-making strategists. David has two grown children and four grandchildren. He resides in Dallas, TX with his wife, Jan, and his mother. He is the co-author of Contagious Disciple Making with his son, Paul. Due to health issues, David will be coming to us via live-video feed.

These are some of the best videos available on DMM. They’ll give you a birds-eye view of the strategy of DMM and show a bit of what’s happening in some actual movements today. The Ethne Ephesus Vision video is our vision for Chicagoland.
The people organizing this conference are a loose cohort of disciples making disciples called the Ephesus Catalytic Partnership. We meet monthly to pray, strategize and learn from each other. We are connected to others around the world with a similar vision for their cities, peoples, countries. We do not seek to create a new brand, organization or even network. Rather, our goal is to see movements happen in Chicagoland—especially among new immigrants and UPGs here—like what happened in Acts 19. According to Acts 19:10, “this went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.” This meant that an incredible 12-15 million souls heard the gospel within a two-year period! How was that possible?
We believe that this was only possible for Paul and his team as it is for us today: not just by proclaiming the gospel message, nor by mass media or even viral evangelism, but by multiplicative, indigenous, simple-church planting. As Trinity Evangelical Divinity School Professor Craig Ott writes in Global Church Planting (Baker, 2011), this didn’t happen by Paul doing all the work himself, but “rather [the amazing results] were most likely the fruit of a dynamic church-planting movement launched from Ephesus” (p. 25).
This is the heart cry of our Ephesus partnership and our motivation for this conference. Following this conference, the Ephesus partnership will be launching DMM trainings all over the city to help you/your church/your organization make disciples in a way that leads to healthy, multiplying churches in every segment. “Oh Lord, may it be so again, here and now, like in Acts 19!”
